Wordpress.org: Pros, Cons, and Pricing

If you want to make a website or blog, then 9 people out of 10 will recommend you to start with WordPress. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is WordPress.org?

WordPress.org, more commonly known as WordPress, is a content management system and a platform for making blogs and websites. Initially, it started as a factory for making blogs. Still, as time went on, WordPress transformed into a full-fledged website-generating system used for making media galleries, online stores, corporate websites, and more.

Pros and Cons:

Here are the things that make WordPress a top choice for people and why it’s a deal breaker.

  1. It’s User Friendly:

WordPress is probably one of the easiest CMS. The layout is easy to understand and navigate, and the interface is pretty simple. It’s a piece of cake to edit, update and tweak things. This is because WordPress was mainly a platform for blogging, and it is relatively straightforward.
  2. It’s Open-Source:

This might be a good or bad thing. WordPress, an open-source software, allows you to share the code with anyone, especially if you’re working with an external party and curating a website for them. On the flip side, being an open-source software, WordPress is under threat because hackers can easily take advantage of the shared code and use it for something else, so it’s not that safe.
  3. Speed can be a Problem:

You can use coding to generate different themes on WordPress. The only downside to this is that coding can take a lot of time if you’re a beginner, and there are so many CMS platforms that have pre-made templates and take half of the time to make and put up a website, as compared to WordPress.
  4. Updates are a Nuisance:

WordPress works great with updates since there are new features, themes, and tools you can use to enhance your website, but these updates have to be done methodically because with each update, the website layout can be changed, and you’ll have to tweak the code to make it work properly again. This can be frustrating, especially if you spend a lot of time developing a code.

Wordpress.org Pricing:

WordPress is a free platform; you can download the software from WordPress.org. But, your website will be of use once it has a domain name and a compatible hosting company that will put your website on the forefront and uses it for professional marketing purposes.

These features will cost you anywhere from $4 to $20, and these services include having a customized domain name, managing online stores, including ads, website hosting, and more. Without these things, your website will be as good as nothing.

WordPress has been around since the early 2000s, and now it is known as the world’s most used content management system for making user-friendly websites and content.
