Silicon, aka sand, is the most abundant material in the Earth’s crust, and luckily, the South of San Francisco and Northern California have a lot of it.

But this is not how Silicon Valley got its name. When it first came into being, Intel made its first computer chip with silicon, which was a huge technological breakthrough. Hence the name, Silicon Valley, was coined since Intel was the first of the many companies to call Silicon Valley its starting place to success.
