Since most searches take place on portable devices, and there is an undeniable boom of smartphones today, each webmaster must take mobile SEO into high consideration for better reach, engagement, and revenue. Moreover, mobile SEO is majorly different from Desktop SEO. Here's how:

Difference between Mobile SEO and desktop SEO:

1. Search Results

The text result on both desktop and mobiles appear differently, and to optimize your site better for both, it is crucial to know the difference. Due to mobile-first indexing, the search results might be similar, but not the same. This is because Google shows results based on user expectations, according to their device.

The mobile's operating system primarily impacts these results. For instance, an App pack that works only on android or IOS will only be displayed on mobile phones rather than any desktop. Furthermore, as compared to desktop search results, the results on mobile phones appear in a lesser quantity, keeping in mind the screen size.

2. Difference in Search Layout

The layout of search results is different on desktops and mobiles due to the screen size. On a mobile device, products appear vertically, and Google usually shows results containing a picture and some text, which means only 2-3 results are shown on one page.

Furthermore, as compared to desktop search results, the results on mobile phones appear in a lesser quantity, keeping in mind the screen size. Other than this, mobiles have a few exclusive features that allow the user to view relevant web pages that Google thinks users might find enticing.

3. Location

We are all familiar with the GPS in our smartphones. This helps Google know the exact location of the user, which simultaneously impacts the search results. Knowing the area helps Google provide more relevant and specific products, different for each user.

Some devices that come without a GPS use different ways of giving the search engine its location. Hence, search results on a mobile device are more specific than those on a desktop. However, if you are logged on your desktop with the same account as your phone, then desktop searches might be influenced by your phone location.

4. Augmented Reality Search Results

Another factor that impacts the mobile search results is the new search through augmented reality technology offered by Google. This helps Google specify and display data based on your camera roll. For instance; if you click a picture of your pet, Google will most likely, determine the breed and show you search results based on that specific breed. But again, this depends on your phone's operating system.
